In most cases, indoor positioning is based on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons. In order to use indoor navigation, the user needs a mobile device (smartphone) and a corresponding app.
Indoor navigation is particularly helpful for orientation in complex buildings, such as train stations, airports, hospitals or large industrial and office sites. Usually, the user’s position is matched with a site plan and they can be guided to their destination via a turn-by-turn navigation. The navigation can be additionally supported by augmented reality elements and takes floor changes, elevators and stairs into account.
